B-day: May 21, 1973

Tell us about the evolution of your yoga practice: I found myself hooked by the healing powers of yoga when I experienced my first Ashtanga class in 2004. I loved the way it calmed my stressed-out mind and balanced my body in ways no other physical activity could. Over time, the physical practice helped me slow down, become more connected with myself, and understand the pace of my life was taking a toll on my physical and emotion health. In more recent years, I’ve become a regular practitioner of yin and meditation to help release tension in my body and mind. Today, asana, yin yoga, meditation, and self-study continue to support my healing from developmental trauma, chronic illness, and physical injuries.

What’s one thing you wish you could tell yourself when you began your yoga practice:

I wish I’d told myself to let go of the outcomes and not expect to much of myself as I practiced. My approach to my physical (asana) yoga practice reflected my life... constantly pushing to achieve, with unrealistic expectations.

Why do you teach yoga:

I am obsessed with advancing my knowledge of the postures, and love sharing the knowledge I gain from my teachers with others. It makes me so happy to see people light up when they feel the physical impact of the cues I provide as they connect with their bodies and the postures on a deeper level.

How long have you taught: 2.5 years

If you could have lunch with any inspiration individual (dead or alive) who and why:

MADONNA, because I’m so impressed with her ability to leave doubts in the dust, stay motivated, innovate, and prioritize her own health.
